A global community of researchers and activists meet for two weeks every year in London at The Place as part of the MA Dance: Participation, Communities, Activism, Activism and Community.

Daisy Street Films was embedded in the residential course over two weeks to create a document of this meeting. The film shares research into the question ‘what kind of dance practice in and of the body can meet the challenges of our times’

We collaborated with the learning community, their leader Jo Parkes and invited artists and groups working in studios, parks, community halls, gardens and shopping centres.

Principles that guided the project

We would be embedded in the residency for the two week duration to allow the filming to emerge organically.

We would use minimal equipment and hand-held camera to allow us to respond immediately to whatever was unfolding on the day in whatever location.

Moving camera, phone footage and sills by the learning community all would have a place in the language of the work

Sound recording was as important as what was seen

We met with participants and groups in advance of filming and everyone had the option not be filmed.

Test screenings with communities allowed us to shape the edit in advance of a Final Cut.
